The Origin of KJ Clean: From One Person’s Grit to a Team’s Mission
I. Three Encounters with “Home Service” that Touched My Soul
The Seed of Entrepreneurship
The seeds of entrepreneurship were actually sown quietly during the decade I spent studying abroad, developing markets, and being stationed in China as an expat. Life back then moved at a breakneck pace—transitioning between cities, switching from airports to offices. I was constantly busy and grew accustomed to that rhythm, even believing for a time that this was the life I truly wanted.
The First Awakening: Identifying the Gap in the Market
My first real realization of the state of “home cleaning services” happened during a trip back to Taiwan. While catching up with a friend over dinner, she suddenly checked her watch and stood up to leave. She explained that her cleaner was about to arrive, and since the work was often substandard, she had to hurry home to “keep an eye on things.”
I was stunned. A series of questions raced through my mind: Is it really that difficult to clean a home thoroughly? Why should someone have to rush home to supervise a professional they’ve already paid for? If hiring help brings more anxiety than peace of mind, what exactly is the value of that service?
The Second Shock: Someone Who “Read” My Sense of Order
I have a near-obsessive persistence regarding clothing. During high school, I worked weekends at high-end department store boutiques, where I developed the habit of folding clothes meticulously—organized by color from light to dark, like pieces of art. In Shanghai, my housekeeper discovered some unfolded laundry I had left behind. Without any instructions, she folded them exactly according to my logic and even took the initiative to wax the wooden floors. That was the first time I felt it: Great service is the subtle art of touching someone’s soul without a single word being spoken.
The Third Reflection: The Healing Power of Coming Home
While stationed in Ningbo, my work often required me to be away on business for 10 days at a time. Returning to my residence, exhausted and dragging my suitcase, the sight of a spotless, perfectly ordered home would instantly soothe my frayed nerves. That sense of relief made me realize: Cleaning isn’t just physical labor; it is a force that settles the heart.
II. The Road Home and a “Cleaning Course” Enrollment Form
After more than a decade of studying and working abroad, I suddenly felt the pull of home.
But what could I do back in Taiwan? The employment landscape at the time wasn’t ideal. If I were to start a business, what direction should I take? Amidst this uncertainty, a notification for a “Cleaning Certification Course” popped up on my phone. A flash of inspiration hit me: “Could this actually work?”
Having been away from Taiwan for over ten years, I didn’t fully understand the local market. Only by returning home could I truly observe the supply and demand. During the course, I was shocked to find how unbalanced the market was. Most established companies focused strictly on “Commercial Cleaning” (offices, buildings) or were subsidiaries of construction firms that handled post-construction cleaning as a side business. In short, there were very few professional companies truly “dedicated” to Home Cleaning. The rest were mostly individual freelancers or small studios with no standardized systems and highly opaque pricing. I knew this was my opportunity.
III. Blisters, Rags, and the Resolve to “Protect”
In the early days of my business, I was fueled by pure passion. I designed my own flyers, set up a Facebook page, and landed my first order.
“Was it hard?” To be honest, it was incredibly grueling. Lacking practical experience, my hands were constantly covered in blisters from gripping the mop. For the first three years, I suffered frequent wrist injuries and joint pain. Beyond not knowing how to protect my body, I lacked the experience to “filter” and select the right clients, which led to even more hardships during those early collisions.
Throughout those three years, every time I returned home, my mother would have a warm meal waiting. She would fight back tears as she asked me, “Are you tired?” To her, seeing her daughter coming home covered in dust and grime was nothing but heartbreaking labor. But in my mind, I was consumed by “research”—studying how to strengthen our processes and maximize efficiency.
It was perhaps this stubborn grit that kept me adjusting. After three years of accumulated experience, I finally established a standardized workflow: Using the most streamlined tools to solve the widest range of cleaning problems.
This is exactly why I insist on training my own team rather than outsourcing. The injuries I sustained and the mistakes I made have been transformed into the training protocols at KJ Clean. Only by learning how to select the right clients and how to protect our own people can a team go the distance.
We protect ourselves so that we can professionally safeguard our clients’ homes.
“If someone is out there working hard every single day, they deserve a place to come home to where they can truly unwind.”
“To this day, that belief has never changed.”
